SUMMARY:CPR for the Professional Rescuer
DESCRIPTION:Course Purpose\nThe primary purpose of the courses in the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers program trains participants with the knowledge and skills needed to Provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults\, children\, and infants until advanced emergency medical services (EMS) professionals take over. \nCourse Length\nThis Instructor-led training (ILT) Lifeguarding course is conducted by a Red Cross-certified CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers instructor. There are no online sessions to complete. The total course instruction time\, including the precourse session\, is 6 hours\, 40 minutes\, not including breaks. \nParticipant Course Materials\nAmerican Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Participant’s Handbook (print or digital) Course participants must have access to their own manual throughout the course. When using a digital manual\, a tablet or laptop should be used during class to ensure proper viewing.\nAccess to digital materials will be provided by the instructor of the course.  Print materials are available on the Red Cross store (redcross.org/store). \nCertification Requirements\nTo earn certification\, participants must:\n▪ Attend the entire course and participate in all class sessions.\n▪ Actively participate in all course activities\, including assuming various roles during skill practices\, skill drills\, activities and scenarios.\n▪ Demonstrate proficiency in all skills.\n▪ Pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent.\n▪ Pass the final skill assessment (team response scenario performing with multiple rescuer CPR and use of AED and BVM resuscitator). \nCertification\nParticipants who successfully complete the CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers course will be issued the following American Red Cross certificate: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers that is valid for 2 years. \nTo maintain the CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification\, a currently certified CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer must successfully complete the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Recertification Assessment online course prior to certificate expiration. A 30-day grace period may apply\, but it does not extend the certification beyond the 2 years.  Once the CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification is expired\, a participant must successfully complete the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers course or challenge course.

DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the American Red Cross r. 24 Lifeguarding Instructor Recertification course is to give instructors the opportunity to review the course knowledge and skills within a formal course setting to maintain their American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification. Successfully completing this course is the only method for maintaining certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguarding instructor. Once expired by no longer than 2 years\, candidates may take the Lifeguarding Instructor Crossover/Reentry course. Expired candidates may participate in Lifeguarding Instructor course. \nCourse Prerequisites \n◼ Possess a current\, or expired by no more than 1-year\, American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification. \n◼ Successfully complete the online session of the Lifeguarding Instructor Recertification course prior to the in-person session. Course Length The Lifeguarding Instructor recertification course is delivered in a blended learning format\, consisting of an online session (completed independently by the candidate) and in-person sessions (led by an American Red Cross–certified instructor trainer). \n◼ The online sessions for the instructor recertification course takes approximately 6-8 hours to complete. Certification Candidates who successfully complete the Lifeguarding Instructor Recertification course will be issued the following American Red Cross certificate: Lifeguarding Instructor\, valid for 2 years. \nTo maintain the Lifeguarding Instructor certification\, the instructor must successfully complete the Lifeguarding Instructor Recertification blended learning course within the 2-year certification period. If the instructor certification is expired\, the instructor is eligible to participate in the Lifeguarding Instructor Recertification course for up to\, but no longer than\, 1 year past the Lifeguarding instructor certification expiration date. This 1-year grace period applies only to achieving recertification. It does not extend the instructor certification and the instructor may not teach courses during this time.

SUMMARY:Lifeguard Class - Blended Learning
DESCRIPTION:Dear Lifeguarding Course Participant: \nWe are excited to offer you American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning. Blended learning combines online learning with in-person skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency. Please plan to complete all eLearning modules\, including the CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid final eLearning exam\, at least a day prior to your first in-person skills session. Most participants complete the eLearning portion of the course in approximately 7 hours. Your experience may vary widely based on several factors\, including your PC\, internet speed\, and previous training. I recommend beginning the online session as soon as possible to ensure that you are able to complete all eLearning modules prior to the first in-person skill session. \nWe anticipate conducting the in-class coursework and water skill sessions over approximately two ten-hour days at Hood College Swimming Pool. Please plan on getting in the water each day and students must attend both days! You must complete the online portion prior to class! You should bring lunch with you as we will be working through lunch in order to get you out as quickly as possible. \nYou will access the e-learning component through the email that will be sent 2 weeks prior to class.  When you receive your email you will access the online training portion by creating a log in by using your email address and password\, click “Launch Course” to begin. \nPlease be prepared to provide proof that you completed the eLearning content using one of the following methods. \n\nPrint or take a screen shot of your online course completion record available at the conclusion of the eLearning course and bring it to the first in-person skill session. SUMMARY:Lifeguard Class - Blended Learning
DESCRIPTION:Dear Lifeguarding Course Participant: \nWe are excited to offer you American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning. Blended learning combines online learning with in-person skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency. Please plan to complete all eLearning modules\, including the CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid final eLearning exam\, at least a day prior to your first in-person skills session. Most participants complete the eLearning portion of the course in approximately 7 hours. Your experience may vary widely based on several factors\, including your PC\, internet speed\, and previous training. I recommend beginning the online session as soon as possible to ensure that you are able to complete all eLearning modules prior to the first in-person skill session. \nWe anticipate conducting the in-class coursework and water skill sessions over approximately two ten-hour days at Hood College Swimming Pool. Please plan on getting in the water each day and students must attend both days! You must complete the online portion prior to class! (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)\nMaintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs\nSwim 50 yards using the front crawl\, breaststroke or a combination of both\n\nPrerequisite 2  (timed event under 1 minute 40 seconds) \n\nStarting in the water\, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water.
